Lindell Holmes

Lindell Holmes (* 4. April 1957 in Toledo , Ohio , USA ) is a retired American boxer in the super middleweight and world champion of the IBF .

Career

In 1979 Holmes made his professional debut with a first round knockout against Rodney Coupe. In November 1981, he suffered his first defeat against Irving Hines. In 1986 he beat Murray Sutherland and won the USBA title.

On July 6, 1986, he met the South Korean Park Chong-pal in an IBF World Championship fight . This fight ended in a "no contest". In May of the following year he again competed against Chong-pal for the IBF world title and won by a split point decision.

Holmes boxed against Frank Tate on January 27, 1990 for the third time for the IBF world title. Holmes beat Tate by majority decision and became IBF world champion.
