Lindenallee (Wernigerode)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lime avenue is one of the main urban roads in the city of Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It runs south-east around the city center, thereby relieving the traffic in the city center.

history

The name Lindenallee is already documented for the 18th century, although the official award of this street name did not take place until the end of the 19th century. At that time, however, only the street section at the kitchen garden that ran directly below Wernigerode Castle was known as the Lindenallee. The name was chosen because of the linden trees on the north and south sides of the street. The feeder from Nöschenrode to Lindenallee was originally called Nöschenröder Burgberg and the section past the pleasure garden , palm house and orangery, down in the direction of Anger, however, was called Neustädter Burgberg . The latter section has also been called Lindenallee since the beginning of the 20th century. During this time there was also development in the direction of today's castle width .

Today the street has largely lost its alley character. Only on the north side of the street at the kitchen garden still stand linden trees and in the lower area towards the city corner.

On the south, west and east side of the Lindenallee, some listed buildings have survived to this day, most of which were built by order and at the expense of the Fürst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode family . According to the list of cultural monuments in Wernigerode, these include :
