Sarah Kistner (born December 11, 1997 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German long-distance , cross-country and mountain runner .

career path

Kistner passed her Abitur in 2016 with the advanced courses in mathematics and chemistry and then began studying mathematics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Athletic career

Sarah Kistner began her sporting career in 2012 with no competition ambitions together with her mother Sabine Kistner, also a mountain runner, with whom she completed the basic training around Altkönig and Großer Feldberg . In order to start at the German Mountain Running Championships, Kistner joined MTV Kronberg in September 2013 . In 2012 she contested her first competition with the Altköniglauf (20 km; 315 m ascent) and was able to win it straight away. Already in 2014 she was the most successful Hessian young athlete with three medals at international level.

At the 2014 Mountain Running World Championships in Casette di Massa ( Italy ), Kistner and the U20 team won gold in the team and silver in the individual standings. At the 2014 European Cross Country Championships in Samokow ( Bulgaria ), she won the bronze medal with the German U20 team. In addition, Kistner was able to convince with third place at the German Youth Championships over 3000 meters in the U18 age group.

In 2015, Kistner won the gold medal both individually and with the team in the U20 age group at the European Mountain Running Championships in Porto Moniz on Madeira ( Portugal ). 33:38 minutes over 10 kilometers at the Great 10k Berlin meant second place in the German U20 annual best list behind Alina Reh (TSV Erbach).

In 2016 her greatest success to date was the victory at the World Mountain Running Championships in Saparewa Banja ( Bulgaria ) in the individual standings, plus silver in the team standings (age group U20). In October 2016, Kistner made her debut on the half-marathon distance at the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow . With a time of 1:13:41 h she exceeded both the German U20 youth record and the Hessian U23 best. At the end of January 2017, however, it was announced that the course was found to be too short for about 150 meters during follow-up measurements. Thus all times lose their validity. Extrapolated, however, Kistner would have covered the remaining distance in a little more than 30 seconds and would therefore still have remained well below both top performances.

In 2017, after a torn tendon in her foot, Kistner had to cancel her planned spring races at the 10 km road race "Around the Bayer Cross" and the Berlin half marathon , so that she could only enter the season at the 2017 German Mountain Running Championships . On the 13.8 km long route with 887 meters difference in altitude from Bayerisch Eisenstein to the Großer Arber , she won her first German championship title. A week later she finished second in the Aletsch Half Marathon , the highest half marathon in Europe, but had to do without a start at the 2017 European Mountain Running Championships in Kamnik , Slovenia due to an injury due to tendon irritation.

At the regular election of their spokespersons in mid-March 2018, the mountain running team athletes elected Kistner as their spokesperson for two years, who will participate in the newly established mountain running commission.

In 2019, she had to cancel the 2019 European Mountain Running Championships in Zermatt ( Switzerland ) because of a cold on the day of the competition. As part of the classic Eschborn – Frankfurt bike tour, Kistner took part in the Škoda Velotour over 100 kilometers and won the title of TISSOT Mountain Queen in the mountain classification on the Großer Feldberg .

In 2020, Kistner was re-elected as athletes spokeswoman at the beginning of April.

Kistner was part of the C-squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) and was in the junior squad 1 U23 from the competitive sports reform until the 2017/18 season .
