The Linha de Sines , in German main line of Sines , is a 50.7 kilometer long Portuguese railway line, which connects the city and the port of Sines and Santiago do Cacém with the place Ermidas-Sado , which is on the Linha do Sul .

The Linha de Sines was built with a tunnel to Santiago do Cacém in 1927 and expanded to the port city of Sines in 1936 . Until the 1990s, the route was also used for passenger transport. Today, however, it is used exclusively for the transport of goods to and from the port and the industrial area of Sines.

Today it represents an important transport logistical connection to Lisbon , since the port of Sines has been expanded to include a deep water container terminal since 1999. The transit time for containers between Sines and two rail terminals in the Lisbon area is six hours. As early as 2008 , 25% of the cargo handled in Sines will be transported via this rail link.

With the renewal of the tracks of the railway line, REFER created the possibility of re- gauging the line to European standard gauge (1435 mm) with little effort. A joint re-gauging of the Portuguese and Spanish rail networks is currently being considered in the long term. The railway connection between Sines and Spain is to be further expanded for strategic reasons. Block trains with containers and other goods are to run daily between Sines and Madrid in the future. The port of Sines intends to use this connection to gain Spanish cargo for handling.
