Tunes is a former Portuguese municipality in the Silves district with an area of 12.9 km² and 2560 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). The population density is 199 inhabitants per km².
Some historians believe that this place was originally inhabited by people from Tunis , Tunisia, and hence the name Tunes comes from.
The place is mainly known for its train station. Here the Linha do Sul begins and meets the Linha do Algarve . The station is also a stop of the Alfa Pendular between Faro and Lisbon .
