The Linji Temple ( Chinese  临济 寺 , Pinyin Línjì sì ) in the small town of Linji in Zhengding County in the Chinese province of Hebei is an important Buddhist temple . It was built in 540 during the Eastern Wei Dynasty .

The name of the founder of the Linji School ( Linji zong ) of Chan or Zen Buddhism , Linji Yixuan ( 临济义玄 ;. Japanese Rinzai Gigen; † 866 / 867 ), comes from this temple here.

The Chengling Pagoda of the Linji Temple ( 临济 寺 澄 灵塔 , Linji si Chengling ta ) from the time of the Jin Dynasty (1125-1234) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-208) since 2001 . The temple is one of the national focus temples of Buddhism in Han Chinese areas .
