history
The Linkenmühle was built in the 17th century as a grain mill as well as a farm and winegrower's homestead. The mill operated until 1968. At the Linkenmühle a 30 meter high bridge crossed the dam. An older bridge was located here until 1943, but it would have been under water after the reservoir was flooded. On April 12, 1945, the new bridge was blown up in order to prevent the advance of American forces. To date, the bridge has not been rebuilt. It is possible to use the only car ferry in Thuringia between Linkenmühle and Altenbeuthen . It is the only ferry in Germany that operates on a reservoir.
