Linus Heidegger (born August 23, 1995 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian speed skater . His greatest success so far was in February 2018 as part of the XXIII. Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang , where he finished sixth in the final after first place in the semifinals in the mass start. He achieved other top international placings in January 2018 with eighth place over 5000 m at the European Championships in Kolomna (RUS) and fourth place at the speed skating World Cup mass start in Seoul in 2014 .

Career

Linus Heidegger grew up in Innsbruck, where he graduated from the Sport-Gymnasium Innsbruck (BORG) and is currently studying business law at the University of Innsbruck .

At the age of six he started speed skating at Union Speedskating Club Innsbruck . The sports soldier does his training mainly on the ice rink of the Olympia-World Innsbruck, in the Olympiazentrum Tirol and in the Max Aicher Arena in Inzell. The all-rounder specializing in medium and long distances (1500 and 5000 m) as well as in the mass start has already won numerous titles in national and international competitions. In addition, at the Austrian Championships in Innsbruck in December 2015, he set a new track record in the great four-way battle with 162,095 points and in January 2018 a new track record over 3000 m.
