The LIVE Linux-Verband eV united the companies and people and their supporters active in the field of free software and especially in the field of Linux . It was founded at the multimedia fair MediaLive in April 1997 in Arnsberg , the association was based in Frickenhausen am Main , and the office was in Berlin . In 1999 LIVE took over the internet portal linux.de.

After three additional board members of the association had already been accepted into the board of Lisog eV from 2010 , the two associations LIVE Linux Verband eV and Lisog eV decided on July 21 and 22, 2011 to merge. The merger was completed in September 2011. The name of the new organization is Open Source Business Alliance (OSBA), based in Stuttgart.

Members

Members are IT companies such as Linux distributors, system houses, software manufacturers, but also user companies and individuals. Membership (as of June 2010) consisted of:

  • 10 company sponsoring members
  • 98 personal members
  • 4 group members

activity

The Linux Association saw itself as representing the interests of open source companies in Germany and Europe. The aim is to further spread free software and open standards. It offers members a network to exchange information, collaborate and jointly expand business with free software. LIVE acts as an advisor to the media, business, administration and politics. He takes a stand against computer-implemented inventions (software patents) and promotes open standards in IT. The association operated a provider database in cooperation with Heise Verlag , Hanover.

The chairman was Elmar Geese, Tarent GmbH, Bonn, deputy chairman Rico Barth, cape IT GmbH, Chemnitz (as of June 2010).
