Lionel Charles Henley

Lionel Charles Henley , also Bill Henley (* 1833 in London ; † October 8, 1893 there ), was a British genre painter and illustrator of the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Around 1860 Henley studied painting in Düsseldorf for several years . For a while he lived there at Schadowstrasse 84 and shared an apartment with the British author and draftsman George du Maurier . From 1857 to 1861/1862 Henley was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . Around 1862 he settled in London. From 1879 until his death he was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists . From 1862 to 1893 he exhibited at least 145 pictures, ten of them at the Royal Academy of Arts . Henley last lived in London- Hampstead , where he died in 1893.
