Remondis AG & Co. KG

The Lippewerk the company Remondis in Lüner district Lippholthausen (Nordrhein-Westfalen) is the largest industrial recycling center in Europe.

history

From 1938 to 1990 a production facility of the Vereinigte Aluminum-Werke AG (VAW) for the production of aluminum oxide from bauxite using the Bayer process and for the production of aluminum using the electrolysis process was located on the site. Furthermore, the aluminum salt cryolite was produced and the world's first power plant based on a circulating fluidized bed was built to generate energy from high-ballast hard coal . In the 1960s and 1970s, the Lippe Plant was one of the largest smelting sites in Germany, producing around 400,000 tpd aluminum oxide and 50,000 tpd aluminum and employing almost 2,000 people.

For reasons of profitability, aluminum oxide production was discontinued in 1987, aluminum production in 1990 and cryolite production in 1999. The plant structure and some units were gradually used to process industrial residues such as FGD gypsum from flue gas desulphurisation systems into salable products. The AIR processing division of industrial residues established for this purpose forms the core of today's Lippe Plant.

Since 1993, the Lippe Plant has been part of the waste disposal division of the Rethmann Group, the merger of which with the disposal division (RWE Umwelt), which was sold by RWE , resulted in today's Remondis Group.

The Lippe Plant has been expanded into an industrial park in recent years and today (as of 2020) employs over 1400 people. In addition to the Remondis headquarters, the 230 hectare site of the Lippe Plant is home to the certified UCL laboratory (Umwelt-Control Lünen GmbH) as well as facilities for slaughterhouse waste recycling , waste wood processing / biomass power plant (BMK) and the manufacture of gypsum-based construction products made of industrial plaster, e.g. B. Floating screed based on anhydrite under the trade name "RADDiBIN", as well as a chemical company for the production of special aluminum salts such as "alumin" ( sodium aluminate ) and "casul" ( calcium aluminate sulfate or ettringite ).

Furthermore, plastic granulate is obtained from plastic waste and high-quality metal granulate is obtained from slag and furnace waste materials from stainless steel and non-ferrous metal production. An earthworks, a building waste recycling area, and a composting plant as well as a processing plant for industrial waste into so-called substitute fuels (RDF) for energy generation in power plants are also available. Since 2006, biodiesel has also been produced from animal fats and vegetable raw materials, electronic and electronic scrap has been recycled and a biomass power plant operated.

Every year (2007) the Lippe Plant now produces around one million tons of semi-finished products, raw materials and industrial goods from over 1.6 million tons of waste - which are correctly referred to here as secondary raw materials. In addition, an energy yield of almost 300,000 MWh / a in the form of electricity and steam is generated from secondary fuels.

Premium products

The premium products of the Lippe Plant are:

The Lippe Plant is considered a prime example of integrated circular economy and is visited annually by thousands of visitors, mainly from abroad. Based on the model of the Lippe Plant, the Kuwaiti National Projects Holding Co. also wants to build a recycling park in the Arab emirate of Dubai .
