The Lipporner Schanze , also called Lipporn Castle , is a ruined castle near the Lipporn municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
location
The ruins of the Spornburg are located near Lipporn at 375 m above sea level. NHN Bergsporn above the Welkerbachtal in the Nastätter district , about 700 m away from the ruins of the Alte Burg .
history
There is no written evidence of the Lipporner Schanze. According to archaeological research, the origin could go back to the 9th century and the existence could extend into the 11th century. It may have served as the seat of the von Lipporn noble family, from which the House of Nassau developed in the 12th century .
investment
Of the former castle, only remnants of the rectangular ring wall system , trapezoidal with rounded corners, and with a ditch in front can be seen. The remains of the wall are 0.5 to 1.2 meters high and can reach a diameter of up to 3.5 meters. The inner surface of the facility has an area of 65 by 110 meters. There is a gate opening in the north wall.
