Liselotte von Rantzau-Essberger

Liselotte von Rantzau-Essberger (born October 9, 1918 in Kiel ; died January 21, 1993 in Mammern ) was a German shipowner .

Life

Liselotte Essberger was the daughter of John Theodor Essberger and his wife Charlotte, nee Simonsen. She married Viktor Cuno von Rantzau (1910–1982) on July 31, 1942 , with whom she had three sons.

Rantzau-Essberger inherited the company Deutsche Afrika-Linien / John T. Essberger Group of Companies from her father, who died in 1959 . She managed these shipping companies for over 30 years and was counted among the most successful entrepreneurs in Germany. For a long time she was a member of the executive committee of the Association of German Shipowners and, from 1988 to 1990, chairwoman of the African Association of German Business .

Like her father, Rantzau-Essberger encouraged musicians, for example through private concerts.

After her death in Mammern, Switzerland , her body was transferred to Hamburg and buried there in the Nienstedten cemetery.
Her sons Heinrich and Eberhard von Rantzau, who had been with the company since the 1980s, continued to run the shipping companies after their mother's death in 1993.

Several ships belonging to her shipping company were named after Liselotte Essberger : the tanker Liselotte Essberger (1935–1945, then confiscated and continued operation under a new name, scrapped in 1980), the tanker Liselotte Essberger (built 1966) and the chemical tanker Liselotte Essberger (built 1992, since 2015 as Key North ).
