Lissy Funk

Lissy Funk (born April 30, 1909 in Berlin , † April 19, 2005 in Zurich ) was a German embroiderer .

life and work

Lissy Funk moved to Obino im Mendrisiotto in 1923 and began painting, drawing and embroidery. She lived in Zurich from 1933 and married the painter Adolf Funk in 1935 . In 1937 she got her own studio in Zurich- Wollishofen . In 1938 she received an order for the 5 × 7 m tapestry in the canton council hall in Zurich's town hall . In 1940 she gave birth to her daughter, who later became the painter Rosina Kuhn . From 1956 to 1961 she received an order for the tapestry in the Minster Schaffhausen . In 1988 the Art Institute of Chicago organized a major retrospective, which was then shown in Krefeld and Zurich.

Funk created over a hundred tapestries. The works of Lissy Funk occupy a special place in the textile art of the 20th century. Due to the uniqueness of her templates, compositions and production techniques, the artist cannot be assigned to any existing movement or school.
