List of ancient historians at the University of Rostock

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of ancient historians at the University of Rostock lists all ancient historians who were or are active as professors at the University of Rostock at the Institute for Ancient History . This generally includes full, non-scheduled, guest and honorary professors as well as private lecturers . In justified exceptional cases, other lecturers can also be accepted.

The subject Ancient History is taught independently at the University since 1905; since then the subject had its own chair , headed by a professor. After Ernst Hohl was recalled to Berlin in 1949, the chair was not filled again because the subject did not have a high priority. There were only lectures for beginners. In 1963, Ancient History lost its independence and merged with the Institute for Classical Studies , but an assistant for teaching was hired again. In 1969 the Philosophical Faculty was also dissolved and replaced by a Faculty of Social Sciences . Since then, it has only been possible to impart basic knowledge, and all courses have lost their independence. In 1990 the Institute for Classical Studies was re-established as part of the restructuring after the fall of the Wall . Since the winter semester 1991/92 it has been teaching again. Since the winter semester 1994/95, the institute, which also includes Classical Philology , Prehistory and Early History and Classical Archeology , has been named Heinrich Schliemann -Institute for Classical Studies in honor of the famous former university graduate .

The first column shows the name of the person and their life data, the second column shows entry into the university, and the third column shows their departure. Column four names the highest position achieved at the University of Rostock. At other universities, the corresponding lecturer may have made an even more extensive scientific career. The next column lists special features, the career path or other information relating to the university or institute. The last column shows pictures of the lecturers, which is currently difficult due to the image rights.
