This list contains all awards and honorary titles that the city of Marburg and its institutions and initiatives have received so far. A distinction is made between years.

1984

  • In the federal competition "Building and Living in Old Environment", the city of Marburg is awarded a gold medal for the exemplary renovation of the upper town.

2005

2006

  • The city of Marburg is one of 11 national winners in the competition "Improve air quality - secure mobility". Among other things, it is honored for its special promotion of natural gas vehicles. The competition is organized by ADAC with funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development .
  • In the “Federal Capital in Climate Protection” competition, the city of Marburg achieved 47th place out of 78 participating municipalities with 100 points. In this context, she was awarded the title "Climate Protection Commune 2006" (from 50 points) for her exemplary behavior in protecting the climate. The competition is organized by Deutsche Umwelthilfe .

2007

  • In the “Federal Capital in Nature Conservation” competition, the city of Marburg achieved 43rd place out of 115 participating municipalities with 99 points. In this context, she was awarded the title “Nature Conservation Commune 2007” (from 75 points) for her exemplary behavior in protecting nature. The competition is organized by Deutsche Umwelthilfe .
  • In the federal competition “ Capital of Fair Trade 2007”, the city of Marburg and the city of Bonn took second place. Both municipalities will thus bear the title of Vice Capital of Fair Trade for the next two years. The competition is organized by the German Society for International Cooperation with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

2008

  • The city of Marburg receives the “ German Solar Prize 2008” in the “Prize for Outstanding Political Initiatives” category for the project “Statute for the binding use of solar energy in buildings” (solar statute). The prize is awarded by Eurosolar.

2009

  • The city of Marburg is recognized by the German government as a place of diversity .
  • In the Mission Olympic competition , the "Sports Promotion" project of the Erich-Kästner School in Marburg is recognized as the initiative of the year in category 3 "Initiatives that are committed to promoting integration through exercise and sport". The competition is organized by the German Olympic Sports Confederation .
  • In the " German Solar Prize 2009", GeWo Bau Marburg (the city of Marburg is a shareholder with 94.82%) is one of 14 award winners in the category "Owner or operator of systems for the use of renewable energies". She is awarded for the project "Photovoltaic roofing Ortenbergsteg". The prize is awarded by Eurosolar.
  • In the federal competition "Municipal Climate Protection 2009", the city of Marburg is one of 3 winners in category 1 "Innovative technical and / or structural measures for climate protection in municipal buildings and facilities". She is awarded for the project "New building of the Marbach day nursery". The competition is organized by the Federal Ministry for the Environment in cooperation with the Service Agency for Municipal Climate Protection at the German Institute for Urban Studies .
  • The city of Marburg is one of 6 winners of the Hessian Tourism Prize. She is honored for the Grimm-Dich-Path created on the occasion of the theme year "Literaturland Hessen 2009". The prize is awarded by the Hessischer Tourismusverband e. V. in cooperation with HA Hessen Agentur GmbH under the patronage of the Hessian Minister for Economy, Transport and Regional Development.
  • The city of Marburg is recognized as a Fairtrade Town. The title is awarded by TransFair e. V.
  • In the federal competition " Capital of Fair Trade 2009", the city of Marburg took 1st place. It therefore bears the title of Fair Trade Capital for the next two years. The competition is organized by the German Society for International Cooperation with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development .

2010

  • When comparing the current household data of the Hessian cities between 50,000 and 100,000 inhabitants, the city of Marburg is best with a grade of 1.3. The data was determined by the federal government of taxpayers Hessen.
  • In the competition "Preis Soziale Stadt 2010", the Netzwerk Richtsberg e. V. one of the recognitions for their "International Soup Festival" organized together with the Richtsberg community. The prize is awarded by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development.
  • In the Solar-Bundesliga, the city of Marburg achieved 1st place among Hesse's cities with over 40,000 inhabitants. The data are determined by Deutsche Umwelthilfe .
  • At the German Solar Prize 2010, the city of Marburg is one of 8 plaque winners in the category "Owner or operator of systems for the use of renewable energies". It was awarded for the "Solar installation at the Pilgrimstein car park" project (solar glass art on the car park facade). The prize is awarded by Eurosolar.

2011

  • As part of the "Federal Capital of Biodiversity" competition, the city of Marburg receives one of the two special prizes "Environmental Education and Environmental Justice" for the "Living Environment Improvement Richtsberg und Stadtwald" project. So-called intercultural gardens were built here. The competition is organized by Deutsche Umwelthilfe .
  • The city of Marburg is one of the four finalists in the Europe-wide competition “Access City Award 12 - EU Prize for handicapped-friendly cities”. The competition is organized by the European Commission in cooperation with the European Forum for People with Disabilities.
  • Marburg Tourismus und Marketing GmbH (MTM), a 100 percent "subsidiary" of the city of Marburg, receives the "Service Quality Germany" seal of quality. The seal is awarded by the Hessischer Tourismusverband e. V. in cooperation with the IHK working group Hessen, DEHOGA Hessen, the Hessischer Heilbäderverband and HA Hessen Agentur GmbH as well as the Handelsverband Mitte (Hessen - Rheinland-Pfalz - Saarland).

2012

  • The Marburg Alliance for Family - one of the Germany-wide " Local Alliances for Families " - is named Alliance of the Month - January 2012 by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth .
  • The Marburg City Library is awarded the Hessian Library Prize 2012. The prize is awarded by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen and the Hessen State Association of the German Library Association.
  • The project "Educational Partnerships Marburg" of the Department of Children, Youth and Family of the City of Marburg is named "Learning Location of the Future Hessen 2012". The title is awarded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs in cooperation with the Karl Kübel Foundation for Child and Family.
  • The "Helping hands on the mountain" project of the city of Marburg is awarded in the " Social City Prize 2012" competition. The project supports the elderly and people in need of care as well as their families. The "helping hands" take care of the shopping, help with the household, accompany people to the doctor, or just keep company. The prize is awarded by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development.

2013

  • In the federal competition "Exemplary strategies for local addiction prevention - alcohol prevention in public spaces 2012/13", the city of Marburg took 1st place in the category of local authorities and was awarded for its "suPPOrdJu" project. In the "suPPOrdJu" project, the police, the public order office and the youth welfare office of the city of Marburg are working together to improve the situation in terms of youth protection and alcohol abuse in the so-called "market triangle" in downtown Marburg with preventive and repressive measures. The competition is organized by the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA).
  • The two day care centers Friedrich-Fröbel-Straße and Am Waldacker in the city of Marburg are certified as the house of little researchers. The certificate is awarded by the network researcher kids of the Kassel Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This is the regional partner of the House of Little Researchers Foundation responsible for certification in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district.

2015

  • The primary school in Marbach receives the overall certification "Health promoting school". The certificate is awarded by the Hessian Ministry of Culture.
  • The city of Marburg receives the title "Reformation City of Europe". It thus belongs to the Europe-wide network of 42 "Reformation cities". The title is awarded on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 by the Community of Evangelical Churches in Europe.
  • Marburg Central Station is named "Station of the Year 2015" in the category of everyday mobility. The title is awarded by the Pro-Rail Alliance.
