This is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Nuremberg . It contains the architectural monuments shown in the Bavarian Monument List in the area of the independent city of Nuremberg in Bavaria , which is known as the gardens behind the fortress . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first created on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been maintained and updated by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority. The districts listed here are listed together as the district of Nuremberg in the list of monuments .

Ensemble gardens behind the fortress

The ensemble is part of the area bordering the city wall to the north, in which only so-called garden properties were to be found until the early 19th century. In the first years of the Bavarian period it became a separate tax district and in 1818 a rural community, which, however, finally came to the city in 1824/25 as part of the castle peace. The ensemble comprises the largest contiguous urban expansion area that was developed north of the (middle) Pirckheimerstrasse at the beginning of the 20th century.

The Pirckheimerstraße, which forms the already existing base of the district, is the northern tangential street of the old town and the counterpart of Landgrabenstraße in the south. To this day, its course makes it clear that urban planning with building line plans was not possible without obstacles; the road connection planned since the 1870s could not be completed until 1898. Individual property owners were able to prevent regular planning, but individual entrepreneurs were also able to enforce closed road developments. From the quarter there is access to the old town via the Maxtor, but here, too, the consequent planning of the Wilhelminian style to create a direct, improved connection with a Burgberg tunnel, significantly, could not be created. The planning was delayed by owner resistance until such a solution was no longer desirable from an urban planning and monument preservation point of view.

The city quarter shows the attempt at a grid-like street planning with side streets branching off at right angles from Pirckheimerstraße. But here, too, the irregularities indicate that regular building line planning was not easily enforceable due to historical circumstances and that in the first decade of the 20th century such irregularities had already found recognition as design motifs. Since the east-west bypassing the old town was primarily necessary due to the urban planning and urban history requirements, the north-south streets are often more or less long streets with no connections for through traffic.

The streets included in the ensemble, Krelingstrasse and Hastverstrasse, have been developed into elegant residential streets. In the street section of Krelingstrasse between Pirckheimerstrasse and Meuschelstrasse, a stately Art Nouveau group of tenement houses from around 1905–1909 has been preserved on the west side. These rich, raised houses with front gardens offered stately apartments for high demands. The short parallel Hastverstrasse, which is a particularly quiet residential street with some Art Nouveau apartment buildings from around 1905 and front gardens, was designed in a very similar way. Despite the relatively small number of original monuments, the street has largely retained the closed image of an elegant residential street from the early 20th century. Hastverstrasse was given an urban development link in the concave courtyard of the Oberfinanzdirektion, a monumental building that was added to the district between Meuschelstrasse and Schweppermannstrasse in 1924/26. In the design as a baroque plastered building, the building complex must be described as being excellently fitted into the stately residential area. The building also forms a corner of the intersection of Muschelstrasse and Krelingstrasse, which, with their concise corner houses in neo-renaissance and rich art nouveau, form a further urban development focal point. The building on Meuschelstraße shows richly designed Art Nouveau apartment buildings from around 1905, especially in the part adjoining it to the west, which are among the best and most interesting in Nuremberg. It is precisely these partially rich and fantastically developed Art Nouveau houses on Meuschelstrasse, Krelingstrasse, Kaulbachstrasse (south of Schweppermannstrasse) and also Hastverstrasse which give the district the historical and stylistic characteristics.

This development of the first decade of the 20th century is continued in a simplified but more adequate way until the First World War . These more recent buildings can be found primarily in the northern part of the ensemble, where diagonal streets lead to irregularities, which were used, for example, to create Kaulbachplatz according to the principles of urban planning aimed at diversification. Kaulbachplatz is a bulge at the acute-angled intersection of Kaulbachstrasse and Schweppermannstrasse with non-simultaneous but consecutive, non-rectangular redevelopment. The closed row of tenement houses shows a uniform design and was built from 1912 to 1915; the later it is erected, the simpler and more reduced the echoes of the Art Nouveau forms. Kaulbachstrasse, which adjoins to the northeast, is built in the same way. Koberstraße is the northern limit of this urban development area from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It crosses the roughly square Kobergerplatz, from which the diagonal streets leading to the south-east and south-west cut through the district. While Kobergerstraße still shows renaissance-like buildings from the turn of the century, the square, which is architecturally framed only on its southern half, is built on with plastered apartment buildings in Art Nouveau forms from around 1906. Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
