Colin Long (born June 19, 1989 in Santa Ana , California ) is an American ice hockey player and coach who has been under contract with Asplöven HC in HockeyAllsvenskan since 2015 .

Career

Long began his career in the Western Hockey League with the Kelowna Rockets in 2005 . In the 2007/08 season he scored 31 goals and 100 points and was appointed to the WHL East First All-Star Team. He was then selected in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in 99th place by the Phoenix Coyotes and signed his first professional contract there on October 1, 2009, but was sent to the American Hockey League at the San Antonio Rampage , where he scored four points in 29 games before sustaining a head injury that marked the end of the season in January. After two more seasons in the Coyotes organization, which were repeatedly interrupted by injuries, he did not get a new contract and signed a one-year contract with the Düsseldorfer EG . However, during the medical check-up, it was found that his head injuries had not yet completely healed and the contract was terminated with immediate effect. However, he was offered to work as an additional assistant trainer at DEG during his convalescence , which Long accepted. On January 11, 2013 Long played his first game after a 16-month injury break and contributed a template in the 2-1 against the Hamburg Freezers .
