The list of monuments in Norderney contains the monuments of the Lower Saxony city of Norderney in the district of Aurich that are protected under the Lower Saxony Monument Protection Act . The list was last updated on July 25, 2016.

Architectural monuments are "ground monuments, movable monuments and monuments of geological history in the sense of the law." The list includes, if available, a photograph of the monument, the name if available, otherwise the building type and address, the date of protection and the entry number the Lower Monument Protection Authority.

Situation on Norderney

The silhouette of the city is determined by the outstanding high-rise buildings from the 1960s on the north side. The city of Norderney is clearly urban. The admissibility of higher development was at the time a conscious majority decision of the city council. Associated with this was the creation of many condominium units, which were expected to experience stronger economic growth in the off-season. The high-rise buildings on Kaiserstraße (1965: the high-rise buildings North Sea View with seven and twelve floors and 1968 Kaiserhof ) made it possible to agree an eastern development boundary on Lippestraße. This still exists today and is anchored in the city's land use plan.

In earlier times, the surrounding development was considered a benchmark. Through the creation of development plans for characteristically identical and connected streets, accents have been set in recent years. Due to the monument protection, important examples of the building history on the island could be preserved. Some larger building units from the history of spa architecture were able to be modernized from the inside after gutting and at the same time retained in their external appearance. Examples are the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten , the North Sea Clinic , the Kurhotel Germania , the Künstlerhaus and the Inselhotel König .

The Lower Saxony Monument Protection Act of 1978 led to the first professional registration of the monuments in the city in 1983. Norderney was the first place in East Frisia in which buildings worthy of monuments were systematically recorded. For the owner, monument protection means the obligation to maintain the building. Demolition is only permitted if the building is not economical or it is unreasonable to renovate or maintain it. A conservation statute was passed by the city council on March 25, 1985. A first list of Norderneyer cultural monuments was completed in 1987 and came into force on July 7, 1987.

At the beginning of the 1980s, weather-resistant boards were created for 23 architectural monuments, from which the observer can see essential information. In addition, there are the “historical shop windows”, which provide a glimpse into the past with historical images.

In 2018, the list of monuments on the island of Norderney comprised 161 monuments, including spa architecture buildings , 75 residential buildings, 12 residential and commercial buildings, hotels, navigation signs, signal stations and maritime buildings, three churches and other public buildings. Two of the buildings have been checked by the monument authority so that they are not yet rated as individual monuments according to § 3.2 NDSchG.

Former Pension Dippell in Moltkestrasse. Today it is the Justitia holiday home. The owner of the house was the landowner Joseph Höthe from Münster, who ran a lodging house for bathers in it. As early as 1893 the owner of the retired Geometer and auctioneer Otto Kuhlmann was named, who after a year sold the house to the Norderneyer businessman Diedrich Jacob Eils (1868–1951). He ran a "colonial and drug, delicatessen and cigar and wine shop". After a few years, the house changed hands again: Louise Dippell (1858–1931), who came from the north, now ran the house again as a guesthouse with 50 beds. It was followed in 1920 by the Berlin doctor Dr. Ferdinand Steingießer, who enlarged the pension to 70 beds. In the 1931 bathing prospectus, the guesthouse is referred to as the “most elegant family home”. With the global economic crisis and the exclusion of Jewish bathers from 1933, Dr. Stone foundry in economic need. In 1935 the pension was auctioned. The buyer was the "German Reich, Reich Finance Administration". After the war there was a finance school in the house, from 1960 it was initially an institution of the social association for members of the judiciary of Lower Saxony, and later of the education and recreation organization (BEW) Hanover.

Former fortifications with a system of ditches and trees. Square ski jumping facility built between 1811 and 1812 as part of the continental barrier. The facility was used by the French occupying forces until November 1813 to enforce the continental barrier, which forbade any exchange of goods with England and its allies. At the time, the battery was only about 50 meters away from the bank and was surrounded by palisades and equipped with four cannons. Inside the ramparts there were accommodations for the permanent crew and a bakery. The former French battery is the oldest preserved cultural monument on Norderney. In 1912 the interior was transformed into a forest church . The trees serve as pillars and pillars, the crown of leaves as a roof.
