The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the city Helmbrechts awarded to. It also awards the silver and gold citizen medals.

Honorary citizens have the right to sign the city's golden book. You will be invited as guests to representative events in the city. In the event of an emergency through no fault of one's own, a one-off or ongoing honorary salary can be granted. When an honorary citizen dies, the city takes an honorable part in their burial.

Since 1903 the following people have been made honorary citizens. The honorary citizenships bestowed on Paul von Hindenburg, Adolf Hitler, Ritter von Epp, and Hans Schemm during the Nazi era were revoked on December 30, 1946.

Note: The listing is done chronologically according to the date of award. The list is likely not to be complete between 1987 and 2003.
