Otto Knopf (born April 9, 1926 in Helmbrechts ; † November 18, 2005 ibid) was a writer and dialect poet from the Franconian Forest .

Life

The son of a weaver received training as a teacher. After the end of the Second World War , Knopf taught at the local elementary school . From 1968 until his retirement in 1989 , Knopf headed the elementary school in Helmbrechts.

Knopf published 17 books and was the author of numerous other publications on local history. In 2003 he was made an honorary citizen of Helmbrechts. Knopf was honorary chairman of the Franconian Forest Association , the Museum Association and the Teachers Association. He was an active member of the board of all clubs for many years. Knopf has received several awards for his commitment, he was the holder of the Medal of Honor of the Upper Franconia District , the Medal of Merit of the Hof District , the Culture Prize of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Upper Franconia (1994) and the Golden Citizen Medal of Helmbrechts.

One of his main achievements is the transformation of the Helmbrechts local history museum into the Upper Franconian Textile Museum .
