List of vascular plants in Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following list contains German names for almost all vascular plants occurring in the wild or naturalized in Germany , sorted by genus name . The associated scientific names are also given.

The list is based on the standard list of fern and flowering plants in Germany (see literature and web links ). This represents a widely accepted reference for the unambiguous and scientifically proven naming of plant species (species) and other levels of the plant kingdom in the branch vascular plants ( Angiospermae , Gymnospermae , Pteridophyta ). The scientific names are standardized in binary nomenclature . German names are also given for the plant species , which are listed here for reference purposes.

Creation of the standard list

Efforts to standardize the naming of plants have existed since the 17th century. The importance of the uniform naming of plants has since been undisputed among botanists. Nevertheless, in the course of time there were often name changes or double names (synonyms) due to a lack of information or differing views. This can make it very difficult to compare different types of work.

Two important contributions from the 20th century are the directory of fern and flowering plants of the German Empire by Rudolf Mansfeld (1940) and the list of vascular plants of Central Europe by Friedrich Ehrendorfer (1973).

The standard list was created in 1993 as part of a research project funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) as a database that also contains older data, e.g. B. integrated by Ehrendorfer . The results were published in book form in 1998 by Rolf Wisskirchen and Henning Haeupler as a standard list . The picture atlas of the fern and flowering plants appeared as a supplement . The third volume ( Distribution Atlas of Ferns and Flowering Plants in Germany ) was published in 2013.

A current revision of the standard list by Karl Peter Buttler , Rudolf May and Detlev Metzing has been available since December 2018 and has yet to be integrated into the editing for Wikipedia.

In addition to the standard list of vascular plants, the so-called German SL as a standard list also includes volatile and cultural refugees as well as mosses, lichens and fungi.

Volume of book edition

The standard list of fern and flowering plants in its printed version contains only indigenous plants , archaeophytes and established neophytes . This results in a number of around 4100 wild plant clans for Germany. For each clan, the scientific name that is considered valid and recommended, any earlier or alternative names, extensive author information , a German name, the systematic rank of the taxon and other information is listed. The list is sorted alphabetically by scientific name.

Web version

The data of the standard list, the picture atlas and the Germany-wide distribution maps are available online from the BfN server at www.floraweb.de (see web links / list of literature). The number of available taxa goes far beyond the scope of the printed edition. There are z. B. also contain cultivated plants and wild plants only inconsistently occurring. However, the extensive notes contained in the book are missing.

Editing for Wikipedia

The alphabetical list given above was created in 2006 as a greatly reduced excerpt from the web version. There were only taxa level species recorded, ie species. Of the many data fields, only the German name (trivial name), the scientific name specified as valid in the standard list, and the assignment to a plant family according to the system used in the standard list (Brummitt: Vascular Plant Families and Genera. 1992).
