In the south-west, the building developed after 1857 extends beyond the former city limits and surrounds Weihertorplatz with mostly larger and higher-quality buildings. Immediately to the west of the old town are the 19th and 20th century cellars, which are extremely important for the Moselle front. The cityscape is characterized by the contrast between the streets, which still appear narrow from the Middle Ages, and an almost complete late and post-classical development from the period between around 1860 and 1890. With the consistently modest facade design, at least in the more important streets, the modern changes make little impact disturbed building stock.
