Location of Wolf in Rhineland-Palatinate

Wolf is a district of Traben-Trarbach in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bernkastel-Wittlich . It is located to the right of the Moselle between the Kindel district, which belongs to the Kinheim community, and the Trarbach district of the city of Traben-Trarbach.

Wolfer monastery ruins

From 1825 to 1892 the place was the seat of the church district Wolf. After the Evangelical Church Community had left it, it was renamed the Trier Church District. Wolf then belonged to the Trarbach parish , since 1972 to the Simmern-Trarbach parish . The ruins of the Wolf Monastery (1478–1560) are located on the Göckelsberg in the southwest of the village .

The place, located on a peninsula in a loop of the Moselle, was difficult to access for a long time because there was no land connection to the neighboring communities. It was only accessible by regular ferry services across the Moselle since 1880 and a bridge was put into operation in 1962.

In 1933 the community had 720 inhabitants, in 1963 there were 842 inhabitants.

Since June 7, 1969, the previously independent community of Wolf has belonged to the city of Traben-Trarbach.
