Lom 57 dragonfly (serial number 15) (glider) Siedlungsstraße 51
(map)
1959 Apart from a few changes due to the continuous use and partly already reversed, very authentically preserved testimony to the history of glider construction in the GDR, of technical significance, also as one of the few gliders of this type ever preserved and as the only consistently airworthy from this time of Rarity and great visual and experience value.

High-performance single-seater for thermal, speed and altitude flights as well as simple aerobatics. The dragonfly of the Lom 57 series was characterized by its solid, aerodynamically good construction with a surface that was as small and clean as possible (glide ratio 30), by simple and quick assembly due to the single-bolt quick-release coupling and the automatic rudder and brake flap connections (at that time a novelty in glider construction) and a brake flap system that is new for Lommatzsch gliders. The latter, however, was not overly effective due to the dragonfly's good gliding ability. The dragonfly was therefore superior to other gliders (not only from the GDR), especially in weak thermals.

To the construction:

  • Self-supporting middle decker in wood construction
  • suitable for winch and aircraft towing (keel or bow restraint)
  • Hull in frame-stringer construction, plywood planked, supporting structure and tail unit z. Partly also covered with fabric (e.g. oars)
  • Plexiglass hood can be opened, in an emergency can be ejected by actuating the lever
  • Nose cap with openings for pressure reduction and for aircraft tow
  • Two-part supporting structure, two wings with a total span of 16.5 m, can be dismantled for the purpose of transport, for wing assembly the wing spars are inserted into a continuous spar bridge on both sides of the fuselage and fixed by means of a central locking bolt (one-bolt quick coupling), the connection of the The rudder and airbrake connections are made automatically
  • Tail unit at the rear, horizontal tail surfaces can be folded up for transporting the aircraft, including the rear skid
  • Control by means of joysticks and pedals, transmission of the aileron and airbrake control in the fuselage via steel cables, in the structure via bumpers
  • The instrumentation originally consisted of a speedometer and altimeter, a fine and coarse variometer, a compass and an electric turn indicator
  • Landing gear not original, dragonfly originally equipped with bow and stern skids, currently with nose wheel instead of a skid (for landing on paved airfields)
