Trinitatiskirche (church (with furnishings) and surrounding church square (garden monument)) | Lutherplatz (map) |
1895-1897 | Neo-Romanesque central building with a cross-shaped floor plan, house facade, church building dominating the site, architect: Jürgen Kröger , Berlin, jewelry space around the Evangelical Lutheran Trinity Church with driveway to the church, pavement with small pavement and old trees, building history, local history, characterizing the locality and artistically important.
The Trinitatiskirche (1895–97, architect: Jürgen Kröger) is a neo-Romanesque central building with a cross-shaped floor plan with a semicircular choir closure in the east. The exposed sandstone building rises above a rubble stone base. The west facade with three portals and rose windows is flanked by two towers. The square approach of the crossing tower develops into an octagonal upper floor, which is covered by dazzling gables in the area of the tower roof. The slate-covered tower roof ends with a copper lantern. The tower is flanked by four corner towers on which the statues of the evangelists are placed. Inside, the main room is covered by a radial vault. The cross arms are separated from the main room with belt arches over four mighty pillars. Structural elements such as belt arches, pillars or the parapets of the single-storey galleries were made with Ullersdorfer facing bricks. The organ gallery is in the west. The altar has a three-part structure. Above the brick-faced cafeteria there is a relief made of Westphalian limestone with the scene of the Last Supper, above which a crucifix with two praying angels rises. The back wall of the altar niche opens above the altar in a group of three rosette windows, which are to be interpreted as a symbol of the Trinity. Further furnishing elements from the time of construction are the brick-faced pulpit, the baptismal font made of copper and the wrought-iron lectern. 1968-69 renovation measures were carried out inside under the direction of Christian Möller and Helmar Helas. The ability of the Trinity Church in Riesa to be listed as a monument results from its urban, architectural and local historical and artistic significance. The location within an evenly laid out street network as well as the design of the church square refer to an urban development of the quarter. This happened in the course of the expansion of the city due to industrialization and the development of Riesa to become the third largest garrison town in Saxony. In terms of local history, the fact that the Trinitatiskirche is the first new church to be built after the medieval monastery church is also significant for Riesa. The documentary value of the Trinity Church is of architectural significance. In an exemplary manner, it documents the history of church building at the end of the 19th century. It documents the relevant regulations for building a church, but also makes impressive reference to regional characteristics. Its execution as a central tower system on a cross-shaped floor plan has a historical reference to the Saxon church building with a view of the Dresden Frauenkirche. In addition, the building was included as an example in the contemporary debate on the question of church building. As one of the first sacral central building designs actually executed in the 19th century, the Trinity Church evoked a differentiated discussion of the position of the pulpit, especially for central buildings. The ability of the Trinity Church described to be a monument is based not only on the reasons mentioned, but also on its personal historical significance. The architect Jürgen Kröger (1856–1928), formerly an employee of Johannes Otzen , realized numerous Protestant church buildings throughout the empire. In Saxony, these include the Moritzkirche in Zwickau (1891–1893, together with Abesser), the Markuskirche in Chemnitz (1893–1895, together with Abesser) and the Jakobikirche in Dresden (1897–1901, blown up after the Second World War due to considerable damage ). (LfD, 2011.) Neo-Romanesque central building with a cross-shaped floor plan, built 1895–97 by Jürgen Kröger, restoration in 1968/69 (interior). Unplastered house installation over rubble stone plinth with elongated east choir and semicircular end, with four choir flank towers. The square central tower with an eight-sided upper storey and glare gables. The tower roof is slated with a lantern-like copper top. In the west porch with three portals and rose windows, transept facades with three large arched windows. Inside, stone-transparent brick. The central room is vaulted with a net, the cross arms are separated by belt arches over four mighty pillars, single-storey galleries, in the west an organ gallery. To the east of the altar, semicircular closed chapel. The furnishings in neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic forms from the time of construction. Three-part altar structure in monochrome sandstone depicting the Last Supper, above the crucified one with two mourning angels. Brick pulpit adorned with fits. Neo-Romanesque baptismal font made of embossed copper. (Dehio Sachsen I, 1996). |
