Albertstrasse 23 in Grossenhain, built in 1888–1889, is one of a series of structurally comparable residential buildings of historicism (Albertstrasse 25, 27 and 29) that had been built as an urban counterpart to the hussar barracks since the beginning of the 1880s. As a two-story building, they were apparently intended to subordinate themselves to the barracks complex at the same time. The connection with the aforementioned neighboring buildings has a significance in terms of urban development history. The historical building value of the architecture at the end of the 19th century results from the witnesses of historical architecture. LfD / 2017.

1930-1931 Testimony for the water supply of the urban area, of technical and architectural significance.

The approx. 20 meter high, square water tower was built in 1930/31 in the New Objectivity style. The white, plastered brick building is crowned by a pointed tent roof with a weather vane. Originally, the tower was only very sparingly exposed to light through square windows in the lower third and groups of three windows with clinker framing in the area of the water tank. In the course of the conversion to a residential building in 2000, the facade was provided with additional, larger windows, which are stylistically adapted to the existing building thanks to their clinker brick frame. The entrance area is particularly emphasized with a wide frame made of red clinker bricks and a profiled lintel. As a testimony to the communal water supply at the beginning of the 20th century, the water tower is of technical significance. At the same time, it has an architectural historical significance. after 1744 Two-storey plastered building with segmented arch portal, building that has largely been preserved in its original form as evidence of the reconstruction after the city fire of 1744, of architectural and urban significance.

Analogous to Apothekergasse 2, number 4 is a characteristic baroque town house that was built shortly after the devastating fire of 1744, certainly 1745 (see number 6, dating here in the apex above the entrance door). The interior has largely been preserved in its original condition. On the ground floor there are still parts of a stucco ceiling from the time it was built. The striking staircase with sandstone steps and an arch that opens to the entrance area is also original. In addition, the deep, basket-shaped wall arches behind the windows date from the mid-18th century. The monumental property of Apothekergasse 4 in Grossenhain arises mainly from the testimony value as a baroque town house from the middle of the 18th century and from the fact that the simple, two-storey building with an axial structure and basket arch portal has come down to us as authentically as possible. Apart from that, the property to be assessed here is one of the surviving community buildings in Großenhain, which were apparently built according to uniform regulations after the great and devastating fire of 1744. It thus refers to an event that was significant for the development of the city and is therefore of outstanding local historical value. LfD / 2011.

re. 1723 Copy of a distance column, important in terms of traffic history.

Copy of a Saxon distance column marked 1723, made of sandstone, in the typical form (labeled with distance information) obelisk on a base, with a coat of arms and "AR" monogram and post horn mark. The column is a replica of the gate column from the Dresden Gate, which was erected in 1741. Grossenhain originally had four distance columns, but these were broken off in the 19th century. In 2007 a copy of the Dresden Gate column was put up again. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679 - 1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of one mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system. LfD / 2013.

Sandstone relief in a triumphal arch architecture, depicting the crucified Christ, in front of which St. Hieronymus praying with a lion in the foreground, crowned by two fish, in between a relief of a head of Christ?

Residential house formerly with the Bayrischer Hof restaurant: In place of the current building there was a brewery built in 1540. This brewery burned down in 1865 and was rebuilt as a "Bavarian beer parlor" (according to the information board on the house). The building file for the property in the city archive confirms the reconstruction as a pub. A conversion plan shows that considerable parts of the masonry on the first and second floors date from 1865. Only a few parts were older after the renovation, including a vault on the ground floor and areas of the outer walls on both floors. Much of the older substance (also some of the substance from 1865) has been lost in recent times, including a modernization in 1924. This is particularly true of the vault mentioned. It may have been removed in connection with the enlargement of the guest room. According to what is outlined here, Gabelsberger Straße 1 in Großenhain is a building that is insignificant in terms of architectural history and urban planning, especially from the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Church (with equipment) Kirchplatz
(map)
1744-1748 Significant and only church building in the municipality of Großenhain, with original baroque furnishings by Johann George Schmidt, significance in terms of town history, art history, landscape shaping and architectural history

to the church. One of the most original buildings of the central building tendency in the 18th century. The floor plan in the form of a "T" was created by the expansion of a chapel belonging to the medieval predecessor building in the south. After the city fire of 1744, including the surrounding walls of the elongated late Gothic hall church, it was mainly built by Johann George Schmidt until 1748 . 1975 restoration work on the tower, 1986/87 the interior painted in light colors according to the specifications of the renovation of 1901. The plastered exterior still shows the Gothic buttresses, otherwise simply baroque forms, hipped roof. Arched windows closed. The tower, which has special urban ties, is built in the middle of the medieval, polygonal closed choir. The octagonal tower structure was only built by craftsmen from Großenhain in 1802. The Gothic buttresses remain on the tower without water hammer and are continued upwards like a pilaster over a high attic. Above the parapet there is a deep swell that leads to the octagon. In this slate-covered throat three very large dormers that illuminate the interior staircase. Above it a hood and lantern. The choir tower solution intended by Schmidt acts primarily as an urban development motif: From the east, the image of a central building emerges.

Inside there is a hollow vault that is pulled into the roof truss up to the height of the cornice and is supported there by a snap ring that engages directly in the wooden structure. It is additionally supported by arched arcades on very slender pillars with capitals decorated like a pipe. Bähr's idea of the Predigtkirche is clearly expressed in the interior design: The concentration of the room is entirely directed towards the arched altar wall on the northern long side, opposite the broad transverse wing of the former south chapel. In the center, flanked by two-story boxes, the altar, pulpit and organ are arranged one above the other. All corners of the T-shaped room are rounded, the impressive alternation of concave and convex curves is particularly clear in the two circumferential galleries and the bedstead ring below. Some of the prayer rooms still have old stoves, wallpaper and furniture. The polygonal broken Gothic choir closure is separated from the centralized space. In its interior, the ingeniously lit staircase is laid out. Octagonal core in the middle. The stairs were laid between this and the outer wall.

Equipment: Large pulpit altar from 1755, simplified by Christian Wilhelm Mieth based on plans by Schmidt from 1753. The reredos with the relief of the Last Supper. Above it, angels resting on gable slopes leading to the pulpit floor. The pulpit is flanked by two colossal columns, to the side of which are the free figures of Moses and John above through openings. Reliefs above the figures, on the left the exaltation of the brazen serpent, on the right the crucifixion of Christ. Outside again colossal columns. The rococo organ brochure above it in five parts , by Johann Gottlieb Mauer , 1776–78, including organ by Jehmlich , (Dehio Sachsen, vol. I, p. 416–417)

around 1900 striking residential building around 1900 with a comparatively complex historicizing facade, significant in terms of building history and urban development history.

The three-story massive building at Neumarkt 13 in Großenhain was built around 1900. It shows a historicizing facade typical of the time. Two full floors with a multitude of design elements rise above a rectangular ground floor. Floor profiles structure the front. Different types of parapet decorations and different roofing over the tall rectangular windows set accents. The monument quality of the building to be assessed here results from the historical and urban development value. The striking building is a characteristic and largely originally preserved testimony to the historicizing architecture, which is based on traditional styles, especially at the end of the 19th century and around 1900. In addition, Neumarkt 13 documents Grossenhain's further development into a modern Saxon small town in the industrial age Revolution. LFD / 2011.

(map)
Mid 19th century Construction from the middle of the 19th century, possibly from two older buildings, the curved rear wall of the building marks the course of the old city wall at this point, property of architectural and urban development historical importance.

The monument quality of the residential building at Neumarktgasse 5 in Großenhain results from its importance in terms of urban development and architectural history.

The elongated, two-storey building with a loft and gable roof is located in the northwestern part of the old town of Großenhain. The slightly outwardly curved back wall of the house marks the course of the city wall (curtain wall) which began as early as the 13th century. It is possible that the back wall was founded on the city wall. The fortification was improved and expanded in 1370–1380. Since then, the complex has consisted of a moat, the front wall, the kennel and the curtain wall. City maps from the middle of the 18th century show that a building had already stood at the site of the object to be assessed at this time. In its current form, Neumarktgasse 5 probably dates back to the middle of the 19th century. There are probably two older houses in the elongated building. This is indicated by the rather unusual structure of the building and the existence of different cellars.

On the street side it appears with an axially structured, two-story facade. The three southern window axes are set off from the rest of the largely unadorned house by segmental arches, roofing and recesses for the folding shutters. The back is also kept simple. The evenly arranged window openings are enlivened by a fine, historicizing plaster structure.

The interior with half-timbered structures has meanwhile been largely gutted.

The importance of Neumarktgasse 5 in terms of urban development comes from the fact that it marks the course of the city wall at this point.

The historical significance results from contemporary witnesses to the development of Großenhain in the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition, there is a late medieval cellar and such facilities probably dating from the 18th century. LfD / 2011.
