The country's first Prime Minister, Eric Williams, had been in office since October 28, 1956, albeit under different forms of government and office titles. In this table, the first term of office from the country's independence in 1962 is taken into account. During his first term from 1962, Williams was Prime Minister of the Commonwealth Realm Trinidad and Tobago, during the second term from 1976 as President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
