List of stumbling blocks in Emlichheim

The list of stumbling blocks in Emlichheim contains all the stumbling blocks that were laid as part of the art project of the same name by Gunter Demnig in the municipality of Emlichheim . They are intended to commemorate the victims of National Socialism who lived and worked in Emlichheim and Hoogstede. In two relocations since April 2005, a total of five stumbling blocks have been laid so far. (As of June 2019)

Berend Gertsen was born on August 14, 1888 in Adorf and lived in Hoogstede. He was arrested in 1933 for allegedly insulting the government. He was released after a month in Neuenhaus Prison . After that he lived in the poor house in Hoogstede. Because of refusal to work and repeated insults, he was arrested in February 1943 and deported to Sachsenhausen concentration camp , where he died on July 20 or 24, 1943.

Louis ten Brink was born on April 25, 1874 in Emlichheim. He was arrested in November 1938 and was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until November 27, 1938 . On January 3, 1939, Louis ten Brink was on a reporting corridor in Neuenhaus, but did not return to his house. His body was found on March 18, 1939 in the Vechte near Gölenkamp . He probably took his own life.

Mathilde ten Brink was born on February 14, 1880 in Neuenhaus . She was Louis ten Brink's sister. From January 4, 1940, she was imprisoned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp , where she was murdered in November 1942.

Bernhard Weinberg was born on April 20, 1895 in Dortmund and lived in Emlichheim. He fled to the Netherlands and Belgium and was deported from Mechelen to the Auschwitz extermination camp on October 24, 1942 . He died there in 1942.

Rolina Weinberg was born as Rolina ten Brink in Emlichheim on March 29, 1890. She was the youngest sister of Louis ten Brink. On August 25, 1922, she married Bernhard Weinberg. On May 12, 1939, she fled to the Netherlands and on to Belgium. On October 24, 1942, she was deported from Mechelen to the Auschwitz extermination camp and later declared dead.
