List of student associations in Leoben

In Leoben there are 12 different student associations at the Montan University , which belong to different corporate associations. Every year on the last Friday before December 4th, the name day of St. Barbara, the academic leap takes place, which the ten oldest Leoben corporations organize with the student body.

Some of the connections are repeatedly criticized. Examples of this would be the Cruxia fraternity for their target practice and the homophobic flyers of the Leder fraternity. Despite its small number of members (Burschenschaft Leder approx. 4 active out of a total of 4,000 students), the unions manage to make the university negative again and again in the headlines. Despite such scandals and their low membership, most of the associations are still allowed to act as official representatives of the students, e.g. B. on official occasions such as handing over the matriculation certificate and academic celebrations. In January 2018, the Montan University finally distanced itself from the Leder fraternity, which has been excluded from academic celebrations until further notice.
