List of universities in Kenya

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kenya's university history dates back to the formation of the Federal University of East Africa in 1963. With its dissolution, the University of Nairobi was formally established on December 10, 1970. Further universities have been founded since 1984, so that today there are twelve public universities. Each president founded at least one new university or upgraded a college. At the beginning of 2013, another 15 colleges are to be upgraded to full universities in order to create an additional 10,000 study places. Strike-related closings and changes in the educational system have left 40,000 students backlogged who have to wait up to two years for a (supported) place to study after graduating from school.
