List of lieutenant governors of the Northwest Territories
This list outlines the Vice Governors (Engl. Lieutenant governors ) of the Northwest Territories in Canada . They represented the head of state from 1869 (purchase of Rupert's land and the Northwest Territory ) to 1905 (establishment of the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan ). Since then, a commissioner has represented the federal government and also acts as a representative of the monarch. Yukon was separated from the Northwest Territories in 1898 and has had its own commissioner ever since.
