In April 1961, a consulate general was opened on Liechtensteinallee. The diplomatic relations with the GDR were the oldest of the fascist regime to a state of the Warsaw Pact . On January 13, 1973, the ABC reported on the GDR. In February 1973, Francisco Franco issued a decree establishing an embassy in the GDR. The commercial attaché was Emilio Beladiez Navarro.
