The 2011 tornadoes killed several hundred people , particularly in the United States . Other events were also reported from Greece and Bangladesh .

United States

As of April 29, 2011, 1,082 tornadoes had been reported in the United States, of which 540 were confirmed. The 2011 season was one of the deadliest in US history.

  • On April 9, 2011, a tornado struck Mapleton , Iowa.
  • On April 14, 2011, Tushka , Oklahoma, was hit.
  • On April 27, 2011, a tornado crossed the city of Tuscaloosa , Alabama. On that day, a series of 139 tornadoes was reported in 10 states, killing several hundred people.
  • On May 22, 2011, a tornado struck the city of Joplin , Missouri. More than a hundred people died.

New Zealand

  • On May 3rd, a tornado struck Auckland , resulting in two deaths.
