The approach of the lexicon differs from the usual alphabetical structure (e.g. according to authors). True to the title of the volume ( Atlas ), the main part of the lexicon is structured according to districts and cities. The various components of the literary scene are named at the locations (each with addresses ):

Authors, associations and societies, institutions promoting literature, magazines and radio, publishing houses, bookshops, offices with adult education centers and libraries as well as museums.

It follows on from a statute of the North Rhine-Westphalia Literature Council. V. and a bibliography. A detailed index enables the lexicon to be indexed alphabetically.
