Feridun Zaimoglu (2006)

Literature to go was the short title of the series of lectures that Feridun Zaimoglu led in the summer semester of 2004 at the Peter Szondi Institute for General and Comparative Literature at the Free University of Berlin as Samuel Fischer Visiting Professor for Literature. After the events, a book of the same name with transcripts of the lectures was published in 2008. The concept of the series, which should also be adapted for television due to its success, was resumed in 2007 and 2008 for a series of events at the Kiel Theater . This was called Zaimoglus Salon .

General

The Berlin event took place every Monday at 6 p.m. for the entire summer semester of 2004 in the institute's villa on Dahlemer Hüttenweg. Regarding the concept of the lectures, it was reported that Zaimoglu had "invited a bunch of people who didn't necessarily have anything to do with literature, but should please pull off their show here," so that it gets really awesome. "The guests read at the beginning of the Event own and other texts that were discussed afterwards. The book edition contains conversations between Zaimoglu with İmran Ayata , Maxim Biller , Neco Çelik , Ralf Fücks , Maybrit Illner , Marius Meller , Albert Ostermaier , Peter Siller , Benjamin von Stuckrad during the events -Barre , Moritz von Uslar , Klaus Vater and Volker Weidermann . Feridun Zaimoglu wrote an introduction himself, the afterword comes from Juan Moreno .

Media review

The event met with great media interest. In particular, Joschka Fischer's invitation was discussed in the media nationwide. The then foreign minister was excused at short notice because of flu. Werner van Bebber from the Berliner Tagesspiegel wrote about the event: “Literature under neon tubes, but with garden air flowing through it - a good place to confront literary skills with student expectations. Zaimoglu called his seminar “Literature to go”. You should be able to take something with you, not a lot of theory, but something you can use. ” Tobias Lehmkuhl described the writer's inaugural lecture in the Berliner Zeitung about his own work Twelve grams of happiness as“ spontaneous combustion in the salon ”. “After you have let yourself be carried away into this dream world and it has become your own for a while, you will see that nothing is as absurd and kitschy as reality itself.” Wolfgang Schneider from Frankfurter Allgemeine later stated that “regardless the hip-hop look of his heavy jewelry (...) Feridun Zaimoglu immediately recognizable as amiability in person. He has a Socratic way of teasing information from interlocutors: 'Albert, how the hell are you doing this?' he turned to Albert Ostermaier, who had performed a little poetry. "
