Liturgical service
Liturgical service ( Latin minister , servant) is the collective term for functions in the liturgy of the Roman rite and at the same time the term for the person who fulfills such a function in worship . These include acolytes , lecturers , cantors , ceremonies , communion helpers and other services, but not clerics . Also Sexton , Choir, those that the collection collect, and folders exert a liturgical service.
Basics
The Second Vatican Council revived a number of liturgical services that are used in many congregations today. The basic principle is that all Christians “work together in the liturgical celebrations according to their office, their commission or on the basis of their baptism” and confirmation and “take on their own part”.
The general introduction to the Roman Missal from 2002 differentiates between “offices of consecration ” ( Officia ordinis sacri , bishop , priest and deacon ) and “tasks of the people of God” ( Munera populi Dei ). In the case of the tasks performed by laypeople ( ministri laici ), a distinction is made between the “special services” ( ministeria peculiaria ) and “other tasks” ( cetera munera ) , which are commissioned by the bishop . If there are no appointed acolytes and lecturers available for a holy mass , their tasks will be taken over by other lay people. These services and those who perform them are referred to as "liturgical services" according to the usage of the basic order of the 2007 Roman Missal.
Overview of the services
- Acolytes or altar servers have various services in the liturgy, such as the service of the altar , the book service ( libriferar ), the incense service ( thuriferar and navicular ), the ringing of bells and bells when entering , during the conversion and for the sacramental blessing, the carrying of the cross ( Cruciferar ) and the candlestick ( Ceroferare ), the holy water , and in pontifical offices also holding the miter and staff of the bishop ( Mitrafer and Baculifer ).
- The job of the lecturer is to recite the scriptures before the gospel. There is a special assignment by the bishop for the permanent teaching service, which is generally only given in the context of preparation for the ordination offices.
- The cantor and choral schola serve the musical organization of the service by reciting and intoning the chants, especially the answer psalm after the first reading.
- The ceremonial assumes a coordinating position in the preparation and implementation of the liturgy and ensures that everything runs smoothly.
- The task of the extraordinary communion helpers is, if necessary, to support the priests and deacons in the distribution of the Eucharist , including the cup communion .
The totality of the people involved in the liturgy, clergy and lay people, is regionally also referred to as an officer . These include the main celebrant , concelebrants , deacons and the liturgical services.
All participants should wear a liturgical robe according to the requirements of the Bishops' Conference. You accept the processions to input and extract part and sit during the service usually on the sedilia in or around the choir room . The order and arrangement for processions is laid down in the processional order.
