LIZARRAN Tabernas Selectas is the brand of a system catering chain operating internationally on the franchise principle .

The enterprise

In August 1998 Mateo Ferrero Martinez opened the first “Lizarran” in Sitges , a coastal town in Catalonia south of Barcelona , with an emphasis on typical Spanish tapas and Basque pinchos .

Over the years he and “Lizarran” franchise companies ( Grupo Lizarran Food Franchising , seat: Vilanova i la Geltrú , president: Álvaro Mariátegui, managing director / general director: Óscar Vela Nebot). According to its own information, the chain is now the third largest system in Spain and the market leader in the Spanish tapas industry. Almost all the products for “Lizarran” are specially made in Spain.

In 2002 IberFood GmbH (seat: Karlsruhe, managing director also Óscar Vela Nebot) acquired a master franchise license for “Lizarran” in Germany.

There are currently around 200 locations worldwide, including California , Portugal and France . As of February 2007, the chain is represented in Karlsruhe , Frankfurt, Bonn , Mannheim , Landau, Saarlouis and Regensburg . Another 20 locations in Germany should be added by the end of 2008. The plan to expand in Germany was abandoned, the company is no longer active in Germany under "Lizarran" (status: October 2010).

The average monthly turnover of a location is given by IberFood at 55,000 euros. The company's total turnover in 2004 was around 65 million euros, and has been increasing since then due to new openings. The goal for 2009 is 240 locations and an annual turnover of 195 million euros. According to its own information, the "Grupo Lizarran" currently has a total of around 700 employees.
