Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" Velásquez (born March 13, 1989 in Austin , Texas ) is an American non-fiction author , activist, motivational speaker and operator of a YouTube channel.

Life

Velásquez was the oldest of three children to Rita and Guadalupe Velásquez. She was born with Marfan's syndrome , a connective tissue disease. Due to her external appearance, she suffered from bullying as a child .

Until the end of 2012, she studied communication science at Texas State University .

Career

Lizzie Velasquez became known worldwide after a video about them, titled "The world's ugliest woman" (dt .: The ugliest woman in the world had been published) on YouTube. The then 17-year-old then decided to take action against bullying. She has appeared on various US talk shows and has published three self-help books , two of which have been translated into Spanish, and a documentary entitled "A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velásquez Story". This received mostly good ratings.

In 2008 Velásquez opened her YouTube channel “Lizzie Velásquez”, which was subscribed to by more than 862,000 people (as of August 11, 2020). In 2017, she also released her own series "Unzipped with Lizzie Velásquez", in which she exchanged views with various guests on various topics such as fashion trends, relationships or self-love.
