Praise and glory be to you is a catholic hymn in repetitive form for the palm procession on Palm Sunday . The text and melody are first found in Franz Xaver Riedel's hymn book Lieder der Kirche from the Roman times of the day and missal translated , Vienna 1773. The text is a copy of Gloria, laus et honor by Theodulf von Orléans ; it also mimics the shape of the distich .

reception

In the diocese of Münster , the song was distributed in the version of the hymn book Gesänge beiym Roman Catholic church services by Christoph Bernhard Verspoell , Münster 1810. At Verspoell it was the only song for Palm Sunday. It was included in the Münster diocesan chant books published from 1866 before it was first replaced by Sion, singe Jubelpsalmen from 1897 (and also in 1922) . In the 1932 edition it is included again, but Sion was omitted , sing cheering psalms . The following laudation from 1950 proceeded again as in 1897 or 1922. The Münster diocesan appendix to the praise of God 1975 (No. 921) then contains both songs for Palm Sunday, as does the appendix to the Praise of God 2013 (No. 771).

Verspoell offers the text Riedels in a revised form. Further processing can be found in Henry Bones hymnbook Cantate , Mainz 1847. In praise of God's own part of the ecclesiastical province of Hamburg is a zwölfstrophiger mixed text of both versions included (no. 769).

Text of the repentance

Praise and honor be to you, anointed one, king, redeemer, to
whom the Hosanna cry of exulting boys resounded.

Thanks and honor be to you

Verspoell wrote a song for Corpus Christi for his hymn book with the title “Thanks and honor be you” to the same melody and stanzas . This was then, regardless of whether it contained “Praise and Honor”, as a sacrament song as part of several Münster diocesan hymns, before “Thanks and Honor be to you” in a revised version in the separate section of the Münster des Gotteslobes 1975 (No. 951) and 2013 (No. 805) has been included under “Praise, thanks and adoration”.

Text of the repentance

Thanks and glory be to you, you Godman, Jesus, Redeemer,
who loved yours, loved to the end.
