Loch Fada is a lake on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located in the sparsely populated, hilly region in the east of the island about 1.5 km west of the Beinn Dubh . The nearest town is Ballygrant, about three kilometers to the north . The elongated lake is a maximum of 730 m long and 130 m wide. Loch Fada is fed by four short streams to the north and west. About 300 m south is Loch Leathann ; one kilometer to the west is Loch Bharradail . Loch Fada is a few hundred yards off a single lane road that connects Ballygrant with the Glenegedale area.
Surroundings
To the northeast, not far from the lake, on the slopes of Beinn Dubh are the remains of a dun . This encompassed an area of 27 mx 22 m and was enclosed by a 2.5 m, in the southwest even 6.1 m thick, today a maximum of 30 cm high wall. Within the walls, only the remains of a rectangular building from more recent times can be seen today. In the northwest there are the remains of two round house settlements, the surroundings of which show traces of agriculture. About a kilometer to the southwest are the remains of a newer, abandoned settlement. To the north-northwest, about halfway to Knocklearoch Farm, is a Standing Stone . This consists of granite and rises 1.3 m in height with a base area of 80 cm × 40 cm. The tip of the stone has likely broken off and is next to the stone.
In the past, lead was mined in the vicinity of the lake .
