Loch Skerrols is a lake on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . The maximum 850 m long and 460 m wide, east-west extending lake is located in the central region of the island near Bridgend and Bowmore , the capital of the island. It is mainly fed by a stream flowing into the north bank, which flows from the neighboring lakes Loch Cam and Loch Drolsay to the north . There are two drains in the northwest. The Eallabus Burn passes the Eallabus House to the west and after a short run it pours into the bay of Loch Indaal . The more northerly Carrabus Burn passes Carrabus and finally also flows into Loch Indaal. South of Loch Skerrols, the A846 runs between Bridgend and Port Askaig . The lake can be reached via a signposted junction from the road. Due to its protected location, it is also suitable for trout fishing in windy weather.
Surroundings
A few hundred meters to the west is the listed country house Eallabus House and the grounds of the Islay House with the Islay Home Farm . A standing stone can be found in a north-westerly direction . This has a base area of 90 cm × 60 cm and a height of 1.70 m. Processing marks on the tip suggest that the stone was once higher.
