Lock and Dam No. 10 ( Lock and Barrage No. 10 ) is one of 28 barrages that allow navigation on the Upper Mississippi . Erected between 1934 and 1937 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers , the combined structure is located between Guttenberg , Clayton County , Iowa and Grant County , Wisconsin .
Barrage
The barrage includes a 6,000-foot (1,828.80 m) long stone dam with a flood relief on the Wisconsin side and a 182.90 m long adjustable part, which consists of an eight-part segment weir and four dam rollers .
The water level is nine feet (2.70 m). The purpose of the weir is not primarily to protect against flooding, but to damming the Mississippi for shipping.
