Etymology and history

Lok , Loch can be derived from Loh (= forest) or indicate a depression, a valley. The second part of the name is unclear.

In the 19th century Lockfinke belonged to the Uellendahler Rotte of the Lord Mayor's Office of Elberfeld . The place is marked unlabeled on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and on the Prussian first survey from 1843. In the plan of the city of Barmen from 1863 the place is called An der Lockfinke and on Elberfeldern overview plans from 1901 and 1925 Lockfinke or An der Lockfinke .

The place, categorized as Kotten according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district in 1832 , was called An der Lockfinke and at that time had two residential buildings and an agricultural building. At that time, 14 residents lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

Until 1929 the place was located directly on the city boundary between the two large cities Elberfeld and Barmen on the Elberfeld side, after their union to Wuppertal on the district boundary also on the Elberfeld side. When the border was moved after 1963, the border between Elberfeld and Barmen was moved along the Lockfinke road, so that the original Lockfinke settlement is now in the Barmer area.
