Lockwood Masters "Woody" Pirie (born April 25, 1904 in Brooklyn , † May 4, 1965 in Miami ) was an American sailor .
successes
Lockwood Pirie, who was a member of the Sheridan Shore YC and Lake Michigan YC , took part in the 1948 Olympic Games in London with Owen Torrey in the Swallow boat class and won the bronze medal in this. With 4352 points, they came third with their yacht Margaret behind the British David Bond and Stewart Morris and the Portuguese brothers Duarte Manuel and Fernando Bello . In the star boat , Pirie first secured the bronze medal at the world championships in San Diego in 1940 , before winning the title in Cascais in 1948 . In 1950 he won the silver medal in Chicago .
Pirie's family was a part owner of Carson, Pirie & Scott department store in Chicago , where he worked as a manager.
