Lodewijk-Jozef Delebecque

Lodewijk-Jozef Delebecque (born December 7, 1798 in Ieper (Belgium), † October 2, 1864 in Ghent ) was a Roman Catholic Bishop of Ghent .

Life

He studied at the seminary in Ghent and was in 1822 in Mechelen for ordained priests . In 1825 he was appointed professor at the university in Iper, where he also held the office of student chaplain. Afterwards he was appointed Regens of the seminary in Bruges in 1833 .

After the death of his predecessor, Bishop Jan-Frans van de Velde, on September 13, 1838, he was appointed 21st Bishop of Geneva. The Archbishop of Mechelen , Cardinal Engelbert Sterckx , donated him the episcopal ordination on November 4th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Liège , Cornelis Richard Anton van Bommel , and the Bishop of Bruges , Franciscus-Renatus Boussen .

He exercised his episcopate until his death in 1864, during which time he approved the communion of the Brothers of St. Hieronymus Ämiliani Congregation of Episcopal Law.
