Lodwar is the administrative center of Turkana County in northwestern Kenya with around 20,000 inhabitants. The county, a semi-arid area ( semi-desert ), borders Uganda , South Sudan and Ethiopia . The city is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Lodwar .
Lodwar is about 500 meters above sea level and about 360 kilometers north of Eldoret and 120 kilometers south of Kakuma on the road to Juba that runs from Mombasa via Nairobi , Nakuru , Eldoret and Kitale .
