Anke Baier-Loef , b. Baier, (born May 22, 1972 in Eisenach ) is a former German speed skater .
Career
Anke Baier-Loef began her athletic career in the field of athletics, but switched to speed skating in 1985 at the instigation of her future coach Stephan Gneupel . She was Junior World Champion in Calgary in 1991 and was named Junior Athlete of the Year in the same year .
Anke Baier-Loef took part in the Winter Olympics in 1992 , 1994 and 1998 . After taking 9th place over 1000 m and 10th place over 500 m in Albertville in 1992 , Baier-Loef won the 9th place in the overall World Cup ranking over the 500 meter in 1993 under her maiden name Baier with 80 points. Distance occupied, winning the silver medal over 1000 m at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . Over 1500 m she finished 11th and over 500 m 15th. At the games in Nagano in 1998, however, she could no longer build on the success and took 15th place over 500 m and 16th over 1000 m. At the beginning of May 1999 she withdrew from competitive sports.
