The Bundeswehr Logistics School was the Bundeswehr's central training facility for logistics from 1959/60 to 1999 . Her tasks consisted of imparting business management thinking and introducing the principles of economic business design as well as work organization, performance-based scheduling and the use of electronic data processing; it thus built on the curriculum of the armed forces schools . The staff has been trained to:

  • Use in the basic depots,
  • for the management and implementation of transports in and out of the base and to
  • Processing of supplies from overseas.

In addition, from November 1982 to June 1998 the NATO Logistics Courses were held every six months at the Bundeswehr logistics school. The logistics school was subordinate to the Armed Forces Office.

history

On May 1, 1958, the Bundeswehr logistics school advance staff was set up on the command route. First it moved into the Ermekeil barracks in Bonn ; a month later the Wahn airbase became the new place of work. In April 1959, a new advance command continued construction in Rengsdorf. At this point in time, the decision in favor of Hamburg as the future location of the Bundeswehr logistics school had already been made; the Iserbrook barracks intended as accommodation was not yet free. In September 1959 the first course for "Logistic Management" began in Putlos and was continued in the Hamburg site command. In May 1960, the first parts of the school were finally able to move into the Iserbrook barracks; the move was finally completed in August 1960. On October 12, 1960, the official commissioning by the General Inspector of the Bundeswehr, General Adolf Heusinger . On March 12, 1999, teaching ceased and the school closed on June 30, 1999. Function successors are u. a. the technical school of the army and technical school of the army for technology in Aachen, the replenishment school of the army in Garlstadt and the school for field hunters and staff service in Sonthofen.

structure

The logistics school of the Bundeswehr was initially structured as follows: The commander and his staff were directly subordinate to the training manager and the head of the special staff for evaluation, troop testing, planning (ATP). The head of training was later renamed as Commander Teaching Staff and finally Commander Teaching Group, and the head of the ATP Special Staff as Head of Special Staff Evaluation, Troop Tests, Regulations (ATV).

1960/1970 years

After the school was founded, four teaching groups and the central teaching body were subordinate to the head of training; in it teachers for special fields were summarized. The four teaching groups in turn were divided as follows:

  • Teaching group A comprised courses for staff officers and corresponding officials in higher and middle logistical management;
  • Training Group B Courses for commanders, company commanders and platoon leaders of the logistics troops as well as courses for officers and staff sergeants as clerks and auxiliary clerks in logistical command staff, logistical facilities and special staff;
  • Teaching group C Courses for NCOs as processors and auxiliary staff in logistic management staff, facilities and special staff as well as courses for team ranks for the logistic staff service in general and
  • Teaching group D Courses in transport for all grades.

At the end of the 1970s, the central teaching body was renamed the subject teacher group and the teaching groups were dissolved. They were replaced by two inspections:

  • Inspection A (organization and management tools) with four subgroups and
  • Inspection B (logistics) with eleven subgroups.

1980 years

In the 1980s, these two inspections were again disbanded. Three inspections were set up in their place:

  • I. Inspection (logistics management and transport),
  • II. Inspection (materials management, operational security and IT application) and
  • III. Inspection (REFA / MTM and network plan technology).

The III. Inspection was dissolved only a few years later and its tasks were divided between the remaining 1st and 2nd Inspections. On the other hand, the training group was newly established and was responsible for all organizational and content-related matters relating to training at the school. The special staff ATP or ATV was divided into three department groups:

  • Department group 1 was responsible for logistic organization, training, IT applications as well as administration and law,
  • Department group 2 for fundamental matters in material management, material maintenance, depot management and operational security and
  • Department group 3 responsible for transport.

1990 years

At the end of the 1980s, departments I and II were reorganized:

  • Department I was then only for logistic basics and
  • Department II only responsible for materials management.

In the mid-1990s, the two departments finally merged into one department. When the Bundeswehr logistics school was closed, the head of the ATV special staff was only responsible for two departments.
