Bisenz – Gaya local railway

The Bisenz – Gaya local railway was a state-guaranteed local railway in what is now the Czech Republic . It ran in Moravia from Bisenz (today: Bsenec) to Gaya (today: Kyjov).

history

The concession “ to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from the Bisenz station of the a. priv. Emperor Ferdinand's Northern Railway via the town of Bisenz and Wrazow to Gaya ”was awarded to Oscar Baron Lazarini on August 13, 1883. Part of the concession was the obligation to start building the line immediately and to complete it“ within a year and a half ”. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.

The project of a Bohemian-Moravian transversal railway from western Bohemia to the Hungarian border at the Wlarapass had already been designed by the Austrian Saat during the construction . The Austro-Hungarian State Railroad Company (StEG) was interested in the section from Brno to the national border, and received the concession for it on October 22, 1884. For the eastern section of the Brno – Wlarapass, the inclusion of the Bisenz – Gaya local railway, which was still under construction, was planned from the outset. Oscar Baron Lazarini therefore received on March 26, 1884 the request of the Ministry of Commerce to come to an agreement with the StEG regarding a purchase of the route. On July 1, 1884, the as yet unfinished Bisenz – Gaya local railway was transferred to the StEG together with the Klein Schwechat – Mannersdorf local railway near Vienna.

The construction of the Bisenz – Gaya local railway required major earthworks, especially between Bisenz and Bisenz Stadt and on Rochusberg shortly before Gaya, where the line's greatest gradient was at 12 per mille. It was opened on July 20, 1884.

The route from Brno to the Wlarapass was put into operation on October 10, 1887 between Brno and Gaya and on June 4, 1887 between Bisenz Stadt and Kunowitz. The Bisenz – Gaya local railway continued to exist as its own administrative body, as the concession issued on August 13, 1883 for Oscar Baron Lazarini remained in force without restrictions.

On October 15, 1909, the StEG was nationalized retrospectively to January 1, 1908. The railway line Brno – Wlarapass and with it the local line Bisenz – Gaya belonged to the network of the kk state railways (kkStB).

The route still exists. Today it is managed by the state-owned Czech railway infrastructure company Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC). The section from Bisenz to Bisenz Stadt is administratively part of the Bzenec – Moravsky Písek railway , the remainder of the route belongs to the Brno – Vlárský průsmyk railway .

Locomotives

StEG 200.01 (after 1897)

Oscar Baron Lazarini ordered two double-coupled tank locomotives for the local railway from the Christian Hagans machine factory in Erfurt, which were delivered to StEG in August 1884. The StEG later used them with the railway numbers 203 and 204 (from 1897: 200.01 and 200.02) on the Klein Schwechat – Mannersdorf local railway. After being taken over by the kkStB, they were retired by 1913.
